Hummingbirds

There are two types of hummingbirds that make Vermont their home. The most common species that you will see is the Ruby-Throated Hummingbird. The males of the species are recognizable by their red throats and white color. The Females can be distinguished by their green backs and tails with white, black, and greenish bands.

The second type of hummingbird found in Vermont is the Rufous Hummingbirds. These Hummers are less common in Vermont but are often found in your garden. They are known for being aggressive in chasing other animals away from their preferred feeding grounds.  The males have glossy orange throats and the females are whitish with speckled throats and white-tipped tails.
